Frequently asked questions.
Answers to the questions patients most often ask before a first appointment.
Yes. Soma Psych is in-network with major plans through Headway, which handles all billing and verification. When you book, Headway shows your cost up front, so there are no surprise bills. Self-pay is also available.
All visits are held over secure, HIPAA-compliant video through Headway. You'll receive a link before your appointment, and there is no software to install. You just need to be physically located in New York at the time of your visit.
Yes. Your clinician is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner who can evaluate, prescribe, and manage psychiatric medications. Certain controlled medications have additional requirements under New York and federal telehealth rules, which are discussed individually during your evaluation.
Both, blended. Every visit includes real conversation and supportive therapy, not just a med check. If you'd also benefit from weekly therapy with a dedicated therapist, we will help coordinate that alongside your care.
Adults (18+) located in New York State. If you're not sure whether your concerns are a fit, send a note through the contact form and you'll get an honest answer either way.
Your first visit is a comprehensive 60-minute evaluation. Follow-ups are typically 20 to 30 minutes, which is long enough for a genuine conversation, not just a prescription renewal.
Yes. Soma Psych offers a GLP-1 weight management program for eligible adults in New York, including medications such as semaglutide and tirzepatide when clinically appropriate. This program is self-pay and billed separately from psychiatric visits, with rates discussed at your consultation. To get started, send a note through the contact page.
You can reschedule or cancel directly through Headway. Please provide at least 24 hours' notice when possible, so the appointment time can be offered to another patient.
Soma Psych is not an emergency service. If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.
